Welcome

Hello and welcome to Let’s Get Real About Depression.

I’m Lori a Nurse Practitioner and the creator of this program.

I myself have struggled with depression and anxiety for over 20 years and I developed this program to help you take control of your life and start living again. For years I have researched ways to improve depression and anxiety just for my personal stabilization. As a Nurse Practitioner I see where the gaps are in our healthcare system. People with anxiety and depression need ongoing care outside of doctor or counseling visits. Not to mention the lack of healthcare providers to care for people with mood disorders or the cost of counselors and ongoing healthcare provider appointments.

I built Let’s Get Real About Depression because people with depression and anxiety need more information about the daily management of this disease. This program was designed to give you ongoing self care: whether you take medication, go to counseling appointments, or have no access to healthcare. This program was built to improve your control over the disease.

Depression and anxiety can impact our self esteem and leave us feeling sad, alone, and overwhelmed.

I’m here to tell you that you do have control.

You are an amazing and unique individual.

This guided self help program, Let’s Get Real About Depression, was developed to help you get your confidence back and live a happier life. You are not alone. There are millions of people that suffer from depression.

I know the feeling of losing yourself to this disease, but remember, you are the only one who can make positive improvements in your life. Life is simply a collage of our choices and thoughts. You are the master of your future. This program will help you look at your life, body, and mind and give you a toolbox of ideas to help maintain control when you are feeling depressed or anxious. Your journey will be completely individualized – this program was built for you. Use it and watch your transformation to a happier mind set.

This is the time to focus on you and put yourself first!! You are so worth it and the time to focus on a better you is now!!

Healthcare Gap

Our plan is easy to use, structured and educational. We have created an individualized self-help process that bridges that gap in our healthcare system.

There are barriers to treatment for depression/anxiety today

Healthcare Gap

Time: Healthcare providers are limited to 15-20 minutes on average to talk with you, complete their assessment and come up with the best treatment. This is simply not enough time to get to the core of many issues. There are many reasons a person feels depressed. It takes time to assess the causes of depression.

Lack of providers: We are experiencing a lack of providers available to treat depression/anxiety. The number of people with depression is only growing.

Lack of continuing support: If you see a healthcare provider for treatment of depression/anxiety there is a period of time between your appointment and effectiveness of medications or until you are seen by a counselor. Antidepressants take approximately 4 weeks to be effective. This is a long time for someone with depression/anxiety. Your provider may schedule a psychotherapy appointment but how quickly you get an appointment varies.

Cost: There are costs to obtaining care for depression/anxiety. Insurance coverage varies or maybe you do not have insurance coverage. There are fees or copays for each provider visit (average $20.00 -$25.00 / visit with insurance), medications (average $15.00 -$30.00 / month with insurance), psychotherapy appointments (fees vary, on average insurance coverage will pay for 2-3 sessions), if left untreated or if treatment is not adequate depression can lead to decreased function in jobs, leading to lost wages.

Cyclic Nature of Depression:  Depression is cyclic in nature. So you may feel better at times and then have another episode when you are feeling depressed or anxious all over again. Then all of the gaps in care repeat themselves.

Understanding of disease and treatments available: We do not always recognize our symptoms as depression/anxiety. There is also concern that we will be discriminated against if we have a mental illness. Therefore, we do not seek treatment at all. Or we simply do not know how to access care.

Let’s Get Real About Depression is bridging the gap in health care.
